STRENGTH AND SURRENDER
The Strength and Surrender class will have you flowing through a blend of traditional yoga asana, functional movement and corrective exercise with a focus on mobility and culminate in a few restorative postures designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. This class will help you to build a foundation of lasting health through movement based in a biomechanical understanding of the body, you will learn how your body is designed to move and explore ways to integrate it into your life.
This is an open level class, suitable for everyone.
We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. When the inside of your head gets a little too noisy and bright, it's an act of love to take time out, enter Restorative yoga!
This class is specifically designed for relaxation, breath-work meditation and rejuvenation. The poses are mostly passive and supported using props, a passive way to use time and gravity to unwind and relax. The postures are not about the sensation of 'stretch', but more about supporting the body in different joint positions so the nervous system feels safe and able to release tension. There is a conscious intention to down shift the nervous system from 'fight or flight' and enter a relaxation response. You will leave feeling renewed, soft and ready to face the world anew.
These sessions are open to EVERYBODY, that's everyone with a body.
YOGA FOR BEGINNERS
Rachel’s teaching is firmly grounded in healthy alignment, functional, whole body movement and giving you the keys back to your own body. The healing benefits of yoga become vastly improved when rooted in a strong mechanical foundation- when you move the way your body is designed to move, deeper healing can occur. Yoga for beginners will equip you with the tools for a safe journey into the world of Yoga Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing exercises) and Meditation.
These sessions are perfect for complete beginners, but also open to those who wish to revisit the basics.
Rachel's Yoga Open classes take a skill based approach to the active Yoga Asana and take inspiration from many movement modalities. Balancing the somatic (moving from within) and traditional asana aspects of yoga with new exercise science principles to achieve movement goals. Active postures encourage strength while promoting joint health and tissue resilience and movement variability.
These sessions are open to all levels, although complete beginners might want to join the beginners session first.
